Just Go And Do It!

Trying to find that perfect design placement, internship or career boost is really difficult. Since my redundancy I have been searching, interviewed and coming so close yet no cigar for months now.

Every piece of feedback has been useful and given me the confidence to keep going. The latest from Something Big, to practice my skills to get faster and better as well as to have more ‘image & text’ based designs in my portfolio. Also to not give up. This was the most valuable and helpful piece of advice I have received so far. It’s made me realise where I can improve.

(The trouble is just getting round to doing it.)

A new venture has also started, it’s just getting on to it’s feet; this venture is called ‘Off The Grid, Design & Marketing’. A group of designers and freelancers available to take on any brief! I have been a part of the branding and naming of the group, which was really enjoyable. It gave me something to do, as well as to collaborate with one of my friends whose been in the industry for 20 + years.

I’m hoping it works out!

Today I gave my self very good advice, which I will seldom follow it!

PrintWhile working on my new unit, Professional Practice: Promotion and Employability, I gave my self this very same advice in my sketchbook while annotating around my ‘Promotion of You’ task…… I even drew a burger on the page. This is productivity I am proud of!

NEW DESKTOP WALLPAPER!!!!!

Untitled-1I decided to make a new desktop wallpaper, to help clean up my desktop with a little bit of organization. If I want to later, I can change the categories completely or around…. but for now this is a keeper till I get tired of it and change it around or the colours etc. The typeface is a free downloaded font, from I think Creative Bloq… it’s BROWNIE regular. The grunge effect was found here.

It’s purely designed by me, other than the font and texture.

A less original, but new design

tattooI have a fascination with Watercolour Tattoos, as I have probably mentioned in a previous post. A recent conversation with one of my cousins about tattoos, and taking a break from course work I have managed to decide what and possibly where I would like my first tattoo (IF I decide to get one, other wise this can be for someone who wants one).
To me, feathers mean freedom, individuality and independence. Other meanings can be found here.

Because I am fascinated with watercolour tattoos, I would enjoy looking at this all the time, when I work on designs, or getting messy with inks, paints, markers etc. This would sit well on my forearm, probably my left. Running from my wrist, upwards. The colours here are mainly blue, pink, red, orange, and a bit of purple. If I can get it in a watercolour style, I think it would look quite pretty on my skin. Obviously, up to the Tattoo Artist too, on what they use or advise.

I know people will say, ‘Don’t get a tattoo, they look horrible, they will not look as good when you get older, you will regret it in 30 years time’ etc. My response: I won’t regret it, if I have designed it and it’s something that will remind me of who I am and aspire to be what I want to be, by maximising my individuality and personality. When I was young, I used to draw on myself all the time, if there was no paper to use. Sure I washed it off afterwards, but I quite enjoyed having something there to stimulate my mind, on my own skin. That to me is what a tattoo should do! Stimulate the mind, in the most bold way it should be part of your personality, and who you are. Not what other people want you to be.
