8th April 2017, marked the day my Uncle Duncan married the love of his life, a lovely lady called Jennie.
Summer 2016, I offered to put together their wedding invitations, which also included a Save the Date video, a short animation using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and Adobe Photoshop. You can see the video here: https://vimeo.com/177128953
Following on with the story and natural scene, I continued this style for the invitations. Albeit a little cleaner and much more refined. Little did I know, that I also would be asked to put together the order of service cover, the table labels, a handmade sign for the photobooth AND at the very last minute, the seating plan.
All of this, was worth it! I would not have had it any other way, to be part of something wonderful, beautiful and amazing. All in all, definitely would love to do something like this again! To be part of a wedding not just as a guest but also as a key asset in ensuring everything looks great was the most incredible feeling I can never express through words. The compliments that followed were humbling, to know a wide audience who came to experience the joining of two people, loved the design and allowed the day to be even more special. The transformation of a section of my design, was put onto a well crafted wooden sign, which I thought was absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship and the feeling I experienced with seeing that, I cannot express in words.
Behold, my Major Project in Graphic Design!!!
Familiar Phrases and their Nautical Origins!!! 20 postcards of 2 different dimensions, 10 posters A2, AND a wooden box!!! The packaging has a screen printed logo, for the project and each print, shows a phrase, what it means today from several people, and the origin on the back, in a postcard format. The posters, are just plain on the back but the print from each postcard is the main attraction.
Lots of hard work, blood, sweat and tears it is finally finished!!!!
Yesterday, was the start of lectures and my first two units. Both have set assignments, and certain time lengths.
The first, is a unit named ‘Developing Design Practice’ which is a six week unit, where at the end of it I will have a handmade / designed book. Even though the course work seems heavy, I feel this will be an enjoyable unit and one that I have been looking forward to since the end of the last academic year.
The second unit, is an option that I chose at the end of my first year, ‘Professional Practice : Live Design Briefs’ this entails a selection of assigned briefs for clients. The first, is for a company called ‘Fenner Paper’ who supply 100% recycled papers. The task is to design a poster, in 7 weeks, convincing the people about the power of the poster. This is going to be interesting, as it’s fully open to what ever I (And my course mates) want to do. We can either work individually, or in teams of 2.
I know for a fact, that this unit will run over the whole year, AND we (as in myself and my course mates) will be participating in the YCN awards, with a choice of many live briefs from them.
I believe that this year is going to challenge me in ways, that I had never thought of before. I can’t wait to see what I can come up with.
