Package Florida Logo

Posted on December 26, 2018 by Jasmine

A little while ago, I received a commission to design a logo for a new holiday business, focusing on holidays and experiences in Florida.

The logo itself needed to be modern, simple and relevant to the theme of the business.

It wasn’t easy to come up with an idea at first, however the Client had many ideas of what they wanted, how they would like to come across and, even reviewed each design every step of the way, this in itself was helpful and encouraging.

In the end, we came up with the design below and added some colour to the logo. The process was quite interesting and how this started to be a completely different outcome to the final design.

February….

Posted on February 22, 2017 by Jasmine

A lot has happened this month.

My driving lessons are going well, I really enjoy the freedom that comes with sitting behind the wheel and talking to my instructor.

However, my time at OMM ran short. And now, I have been working on re-designing my logo just check out my Instagram to see the process. So far, with the new identity my CV and portfolio taster have both been updated, AND some brand new shiny business cards are arriving, from MOO very soon.

Next on my list, is to re-print my portfolio. I’m thinking of getting it printed into a book / magazine from Blurb… they’re really reasonable. (A swatch pack is on it’s way with paper samples). But I will be putting it together ready to get printed. Then, while I’m waiting for that, my website will definitely be updated.

I know I’m supposed to be saving my pennies with all this, but hopefully if I can invest in my self, I can progress in my career sooner than later.

Hopefully things will look up.

Graduate Show!

Posted on May 27, 2016 by Jasmine

Today is the day… or should I say evening….

The University of Portsmouth CCI Graduate show will preview from 5 – 9pm tonight, where all the creative students are showcasing their work in prospects to gain employment… (or just to enhance our egos to show how proud we are of what we’ve achieved in the past 3 years or so).

Calm Messy Fun Time | Design Council | Uni General Update

Posted on March 3, 2016 by Jasmine

Last week the Design Academy finished, with a trip up to London, Angel Building in Islington, where the Design Council is housed. My Team, presented first and I was proud as to how we handled the questions from the Industry Panel, and how we presented over all. The feedback was really helpful and the day was enjoyable.

ISTD is going well, I’m finally putting in the content I want and have my design layouts sorted and of course there is now TWO WEEKS, till the deadline so I’m pretty scared yet surprisingly confident! I just need to keep going!!!!

Promotion and Employability is also going well, my logo is finalised and I am now starting to develop my business cards using some really nice Pantone blues and purples. Hopefully some of these will be up here soon.

Major Project, has been slow and I feel it’s really behind. But after today I realise I’m in a good place to start re-developing my prototypes ready for my VIVA presentation and hand in, within two months time. BUT I wanted to show you what I’ve done today, in terms of experimentation.

These are tests with dip pen and ink, and tea staining to create the effect of aged paper. I’m going to start making my ‘proverb sails’ but I want to also design an aged book, that looks like it’s been off of a ship, to accompany and reveal the meanings of my phrases as well as house some of the experiments and final outcomes. Other ideas may include designing and building a cardboard or MDF box from the Laser Cutter and glue, to house the book in and some of the folded up sails. (I may even go further to make a few masts in a row to house some of the best sails, and maybe hang them from my studio ceiling pipes if allowed, in the Graduate Show….)

Other News, I’ve been very busy but I have had a day trip the the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, which is where the inks came from and some more of my inspiration. I have also purchased my Web Domain, which I will reveal very soon, once my portfolio site is up and running. (Might be April Time). I cooked a wonderful midweek Lamb roast, for me and my boyfriend yesterday and it was so tasty I felt like a balloon with weights in. I’m really looking forward to my trip to Berlin, at the beginning of Easter, I hope it will be inspiring and one to remember as my final year, here at Portsmouth University comes to a close.

Brush Control…

Posted on January 21, 2016 by Jasmine

Working on my brush control as an experiment, for this style of letter. I am continuing this feel of experimentation and using mixed media to produce my ident for my promo unit. I feel this is going well, my hand is becoming steadier. I still require more practice however, and possibly to try out other colours to experiment with.

My aim with this is to get the best curves possible (I might need to go bigger for this) but the small size is good to practice with. I don’t want to overwork this, but I do want to get it as close to being right for me, as possible.

Wish me luck!

Day 2 of the Design Academy

Posted on January 14, 2016 by Jasmine

Day 2 was much more enjoyable and travelled considerably faster than the previous day.

This was all about coming up with a project idea to pitch at the end of these 6 weeks, to the Design Council. We used many methods of deciding who the main stakeholders were, also by inventing persona’s for potential target audiences. The team identified easily through discussion of who we wanted to target, as well as what we want to explore within this question we have been given.

Over the next two weeks, are mostly researching and talking to our audience about our ideas and finding out what they need or would like. It’s problem solving at the end of the day, but testing them before writing the brief to pitch.

It’s a shame we’re not designing a solution, but it’s counteracted by designing the problem and having possible solutions to offer, if we were to continue (even though we’re not).

Other news of uni life:

I’ve been working on my identity for Promotion and Employability as well as my own project for my Major Project unit. ISTD is also proving challenging, now as I want to enter the competition in order to challenge my self.

It’s busy but I know I can do it and achieve great things!

More Uni and Amorphic Sun Logo Fun!

Posted on October 19, 2015 by Jasmine

So far, I have chosen my ISTD brief for my ‘Design Briefs and Competitions’ unit, which will be celebrating the Life’s Work of Adrian Frutiger, a very famous typographer. I chose this one, because I feel that this will challenge me a lot in my design skills and I get to learn about someone who made typography as it is today. (well, some of it).

I have also made progress with my research report and visual outcome, after last week’s one to one tutorial. I have a few photos now to work with, and hopefully after this week I will have some more AND some interviews with people who listen and sell vinyl records!

Pretty exciting stuff!

Walking around Brighton was an inspiration, obviously visiting oddballs and buying new juggling balls and a storage bag it was still a good day out. The visual impacts of The Lanes and stores is incredible! Even the record stores were cramped yet really interesting to look at / walk past.

As well as my uni work, I have been steadily working on a band logo / concept art for my good friend Alex Grassby who is a talented musician and undergoing a final performance. I offered my services last month and this is the progress we’ve made so far. (I would post up my thumbnail doodles and type choices, but this seemed the best way to show of progress without the waffle).

His concept for this performance is all about earth, air, fire, water – Autumn, Spring, Summer, Winter. It’s a really interesting theme that I’ve been trying to play around with. It is still a work in progress, but hopefully something amazing will turn up!
