8th April 2017, marked the day my Uncle Duncan married the love of his life, a lovely lady called Jennie.
Summer 2016, I offered to put together their wedding invitations, which also included a Save the Date video, a short animation using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and Adobe Photoshop. You can see the video here: https://vimeo.com/177128953
Following on with the story and natural scene, I continued this style for the invitations. Albeit a little cleaner and much more refined. Little did I know, that I also would be asked to put together the order of service cover, the table labels, a handmade sign for the photobooth AND at the very last minute, the seating plan.
All of this, was worth it! I would not have had it any other way, to be part of something wonderful, beautiful and amazing. All in all, definitely would love to do something like this again! To be part of a wedding not just as a guest but also as a key asset in ensuring everything looks great was the most incredible feeling I can never express through words. The compliments that followed were humbling, to know a wide audience who came to experience the joining of two people, loved the design and allowed the day to be even more special. The transformation of a section of my design, was put onto a well crafted wooden sign, which I thought was absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship and the feeling I experienced with seeing that, I cannot express in words.
My first month at OMM, has gone quickly but well. I’ve learnt a lot, and got back into the swing of designing which is great! My colleagues are lovely and have been super welcoming. Not to mention the occasional cake and mince pies around at the office, so far. I’ve mostly been drinking LOTS of tea nowadays… Coffee is still my go to thing, but Tea gets me through the day quite nicely. And of course the occasional beer / cider on a Friday… after 5pm. (Yes.. you heard that right… we’re allowed to drink after 5pm on Fridays at the work place)
We had our Christmas party on Thursday… Ascot Racecourse… lots of drinks, the food was delicious and everyone looked incredible! We are a good looking bunch, I must say!
Apart from work, I have been thinking about designing my own Christmas cards this year, I have the sketches… now I need to not procrastinate and design them!
Of course Christmas is approaching quite quickly… the shopping for gifts has begun… each week I’m trying to get something without hitting the high streets! (But I think, at some point I must….)
I keep thinking back, that many months ago I was finishing up all my work for Uni… now I’m a Junior Designer at an Agency! I could not be happier.
Next year… I learn to drive!
After a fantastic opportune lecture, by Naomi Games daughter and archivist of Abram Games, her father, I doodled this rough ‘P’ and some words that came to mind on a coffee cup. Now if I can get away with this in my poster design, as it’s meant to be a 2 colour print, then this would be an interesting texture to use…. might run it by my lecturers to see what they think.
I love getting all experimental, I think it will make me a better designer and literally leaping out of the comfort of the computer screen. The textures of the coffee cup, like this would make an interesting print which could, add a level of innovation and intrigue to my design.
I thought I might as well do an update, considering most of my blog has been doodles and recently four prints.
At the moment I am re constructing my website, it’s almost complete. I’m working on my home page but coming up with content is tricky, as I don’t want to appear childish or unprofessional so coming up with something sophisticated and smart is something that I’m not great at. Mainly because I have a fun personality. Smart isn’t really me, as I like to get stuck into things and make a mess.
I am trying to gain inspiration to do more design work through my doodles, I am thinking on the lines of minimalistic game and or film characters. Not yet sure on which ones, but I will post progress when I start.
So, hopefully my creativity will be stimulated throughout the rest of the holiday. So far it’s been relaxed, and successful on the Job Front. I start this Saturday, and I physically cannot wait as it’s my first paid job!!!! Excitement all around. I have also received my last two unit grades from Uni, a 2:1 and a 1st could not be happier. I have sailed right in to second year, but obviously I am waiting for that conformation and what I have passed the year with.
This has been the best year of my life, for a while. I could not have been happier to get in and for the first time, I am excited to go back to education in September! No regrets what so ever!
