The past couple of weeks have been busy. I went to an Interview, for a 4–6 week Internship, at Whitelabel UK. Also, I have been training and have become a Supervisor at Trespass in Aldershot. I have also begun playing with watercolour pencils, for some very special invitations, all to be revealed later this year.
So in between work, and the daily drawings which are going well. Still, I feel they’re not quite good enough to post up. However, two more poster designs have been created.
Week 3 – ‘Fading Away’
I wanted to play with Typography again, this time using a single tone with a gradual difference in the opacity, on each character. Keeping the design simple and minimal it allows the word to be enhanced, with the effects used.
Week 4 ‘Every Adventure’
This design looked completely different, before I added the subtle gradient in the background and the shadows on the mountains. However, the design again, is minimal (I think that’s my thing at the moment…) with the added interest of colour, simple typography and a calming sense of feeling. This is something I would love to produce as a vinyl transfer or poster OR even a screen print to sell.

Week 1: ‘The Boys of Summer’
Influenced from The Ataris cover of this awesome song! I decided to use a gradient of orange and yellow, at a low opacity and a lettering typeface for the display. I wanted it to be simple, subtle and as summery as possible. (Also, rather calm and lazy… summer time is an interesting part of the year)
Week 2: ‘Offset’
I like offsets, I used one in my logo. I like how they create different colours and play with your vision. Helvetica Nue was the best choice, because it’s clean, geometric and I haven’t used it at all in a long time.
For the past three months, I have been working tirelessly on a 4000 word report, that explores the evocative natures of Vinyl Records and how they create an experience for the listener. This was intensive and a lot of research was needed to compile into a report and a visual response. The aim originally was to look at album covers, and how they have created an experience but with much discussion and self directed study, it became to looking at the records and the covers as a whole, in how and why they are evocative and culturally popular. This was enlightening and really interesting to read up on, seeing as how vinyl records are now becoming popular again. They’re a old format, but new to the generations today.
I am extremely pleased with my outcome, a 12″ x 12″ book titled ‘Going Round in Circles’, which includes self produced photography, letterpress, interview and quotes from my research. I have also included a mini 7″ x 7″ book, featuring my interview with one of my course mates, and friend, Dan Bass. Another feature to this book as a double sided A2 poster, with letterpress type expressing a word visually, with the images.
I want to share this outcome to show how proud I am, of what I have managed to achieve in three months!!!

As part of my Live Design Brief Unit, at university the first client based project was to design a poster to convince the people about the power of the poster, in the 21st century. This was set by Fenner Paper, a company who specialises in organic and recycled papers.
My response to this brief, was to experiment with inks and drawing on many coffee cups as I could, to try and work away from the computer and make something that was, essentially different to everyone else. My motive was, to bring back the traditional mediums in poster design. Even though I wasn’t short-listed in the pickings, from the client himself, I had good fun designing and producing this piece. It gave me some stress as most projects do, but this was good experience in print production and working to a client based brief.
After a fantastic opportune lecture, by Naomi Games daughter and archivist of Abram Games, her father, I doodled this rough ‘P’ and some words that came to mind on a coffee cup. Now if I can get away with this in my poster design, as it’s meant to be a 2 colour print, then this would be an interesting texture to use…. might run it by my lecturers to see what they think.
I love getting all experimental, I think it will make me a better designer and literally leaping out of the comfort of the computer screen. The textures of the coffee cup, like this would make an interesting print which could, add a level of innovation and intrigue to my design.
