The past couple of weeks have been busy. I went to an Interview, for a 4–6 week Internship, at Whitelabel UK. Also, I have been training and have become a Supervisor at Trespass in Aldershot. I have also begun playing with watercolour pencils, for some very special invitations, all to be revealed later this year.
So in between work, and the daily drawings which are going well. Still, I feel they’re not quite good enough to post up. However, two more poster designs have been created.
Week 3 – ‘Fading Away’
I wanted to play with Typography again, this time using a single tone with a gradual difference in the opacity, on each character. Keeping the design simple and minimal it allows the word to be enhanced, with the effects used.
Week 4 ‘Every Adventure’
This design looked completely different, before I added the subtle gradient in the background and the shadows on the mountains. However, the design again, is minimal (I think that’s my thing at the moment…) with the added interest of colour, simple typography and a calming sense of feeling. This is something I would love to produce as a vinyl transfer or poster OR even a screen print to sell.
While working on my new unit, Professional Practice: Promotion and Employability, I gave my self this very same advice in my sketchbook while annotating around my ‘Promotion of You’ task…… I even drew a burger on the page. This is productivity I am proud of!
My new challenge for the summer, is to practice my hand at beautiful handwritten typography. I’ve seen lots of examples on the internet and in some of my reference books. It’s something I have wanted to try, now I know more about how type works.
I found this quote by Shawn Lukas online. I thought for my first attempt at hand crafted typography, it would be quite fitting. It was difficult and there is a small mistake BUT I am pleased with it as I know I will get better with practice.
It became even more beautiful in photoshop.
I’ve been thinking lately, at how I am surrounded by a woodland where I live. And I have realised that nature is my origin.
The nature tattoos look amazing, especially when grown into large thing around the body. The ‘Lock’ is the tree trunk. The roots underneath, I have ideas to wrap around my wrist in a never ending circle. The branches at the top, will branch out below my wrist. The text I would love to be elegant and flouncy, with an air of gothic styling to the characters. This is
part of me, and how I view all the struggles I have been through personally and how I have been strong enough to withstand what ever has hit me. I’ve opened my mind, therefore my soul is there for everyone to see who wants to see it.
I took the design into photoshop to add a bit of colour and style to it.
I asked one of my friends if I should place a bit of colour to my design. He said that perhaps use brown for the vines / roots and then add green leaves. SO, that is what I have done because I felt the same way. This is something I am excited to get inked onto my skin, no matter what the expenses are. This could also prove to be a nice little illustration in a bigger print in the future, or an expanded wall painting for my future house / studio or door.
I will upload any other design edits that I make, before I decide on the final design.
