Still some things to sort out here, such as image loading times and missing links etc!
BUT it is launched!!!! HURRAAH!
May 1st, Ben (my wonderful boyfriend) and I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
It is definitely worth seeing! I laughed, cried and jumped out of my seat …. once…..! It was great! And I love the new titles for Marvel Studios… it’s so cinematic now, I mean the old comic style was great but this … once you see it, it’s different. I think it’s a good thing?
My website is going veeeerrrryy slowly. Just this week I decided to tackle my index page again… to make it better…. then obviously to finish the project pages too! There;s so much to do and I thought it would be launching by now… well the desktop version anyway!
Ah well… it will be up soon, just be patient y’all.
Also I had a fantastic interview …. based in a pub (the job isn’t in a pub… but it was great to have an interview in a pub) I was very relaxed, not nervous and had a really enjoyable experience. I’m waiting to see if the CEO wants to meet me first, before the offer they want to make goes ahead. (I heard tell on Wednesday that they want to make an offer, but the CEO was away ).
An awful lot has happened since my last post …
My website now looks like this:
A cleaner one page scroll, and hopefully some nice pages for my work to come soon!
The weekend just gone was incredible, not just for the weather but for the biggest event of the year so far.
My uncle’s wedding!
I had lots of last minute assets to design and deliver on time as well as helping make some willow hearts and shortbread biscuits for the big day. All of the photos to come soon! Everyone loved the invitations I designed as well as the printed materials around the reception. To have made a good impression on so many people through design, on my uncle’s big day was a really lovely thing for me to experience, to have contributed to this along with so many others, was a wonderful feeling.
I’m also applying my skills to a couple of freelance opportunities for two local businesses, while I hunt for my next career opportunity in Graphic Design.
So until next time, I will be finishing and launching my website again very soon, creating a best of video of the wedding AND who knows.. maybe some luck is on the way?
Today’s progress has been a lot faster in terms of knowing what and where my content should go (this is only the landing page so far.. I have many more pages to create, but for now… apart from some very obvious images… and possibly copy….) I am almost ready to design the next media query for tablets!
The last couple of days I have set myself to work on my website, to re-design the whole thing and make it work with mobile and tablets as well as desktop.
Today I finally got my menu in position and the way I want it to work!
I’m kind of going for a minimal design, but more so with the character of my logo.
So, here we have a simple 3 bar menu icon designed in pure CSS (honestly, w3 schools is great for these kinds of things to teach you!)
This is the mobile view for the moment, I’m concentrating on the mobile design first to then adapt towards the larger viewports.
My logo in it’s smallest form, and some random text called ‘Hipsum’ from VS Code.
Click on the bars and you get this drop down menu, which overlays the main content. The close button does work!
Behold, my promotional materials!!!!
1 A3 portfolio
Lookbook / CV Mailer
and my website: jasminehotham.co.uk
All going towards my career in Graphic Design, if I am to be lucky enough to get into the industry, which I’m sure I will!!!! It’s my next goal in my life!!!!
This whole unit was really enjoyable. We were in a team of four, but later three, so spreading out the work was easy. Our task was to make ourselves into a graphic design company, with a fully functioning website, business cards, a letter head, and other promotional materials. I was tasked with producing the website, This was a fantastic opportunity to practice my HTML and CSS coding skills, and also play around with something new. jQuery. This is live, at http://ahoydesign.businesscatalyst.com/ just to see it function. However please do not share our information, as we aren’t sure if we’re going to continue this in the future.
We themed ourselves around a nautical concept. The word Ahoy is a greeting but also used to flag another ship. As a team, we thought this could be loud and quite fun to play around with. All our packaging is based around the life buoy and a good use of Orange. We’re really proud of what we have produced in such a short space of time and between three people
I decided to make a new desktop wallpaper, to help clean up my desktop with a little bit of organization. If I want to later, I can change the categories completely or around…. but for now this is a keeper till I get tired of it and change it around or the colours etc. The typeface is a free downloaded font, from I think Creative Bloq… it’s BROWNIE regular. The grunge effect was found here.
It’s purely designed by me, other than the font and texture.
At the moment, I am html coding my own design site, in the hope that I will be rid of the monstrosity that it is currently.
My thoughts are to keep it minimal in content with the colours in monotone for stylistic reasons and because, you can’t go wrong with black and white anyway. It’s smart, simple and doesn’t give too much away. My personality, however is full of enthusiasm, fun and the odd mad adventure. My site needs to reflect the more sophisticated (HA!) and professional side of me, which hardly gets used, being me.
Next on the agenda, is to add my skill set, a portfolio of work and probably a list of things I have designed for people. (but we’ll see!!!)
Advice is as welcome as opinions and general comments at this stage. Nothing is set in stone yet, as I am working it all out for now.
(As a side note, the colour borders will disappear for the final design, before it goes live)
