This past month, has been really eventful.
The start, involved a week long exhibition at the Business Design Centre, in Islington, for the New Designers Part 2 event and before hand a trip to see The House of MinaLima. This was really exhausting, yet I met lots of new people, networked with some in the industry, whom I shall be contacting next week. I feel that my work, especially my ISTD Book which gained significant attention, due to it’s unusual format. Naturally lots of questions were asked about why it was round, how I produced it and why I did such a thing and in return, I answered confidently while expressing the technical difficulties involved. Many widened their eyes in surprise at how much went into testing it. Others were more surprised that I actually pulled it off.
During New Designers, not only did I see many talented people that I will certainly hope to meet again some day, but I had gained a couple of interviews and a meeting with a creative careers consultant, who was really helpful in offering me a couple of opportunities to apply to. However, I have been unsuccessful so far in my search, but I am looking and applying to everything I can. I hope soon, I will find something.
The week after, I graduated with an Upper 2nd Class BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design. My efforts for the YCN Awards were noted, in a celebration before hand and was called when I walked to shake our Chancellor Sandi Toxvig’s hand as well as the Dean of our School, Catherine Harper.
It has been a wonderful journey these past three years and I hope soon, my new journey as a Graphic Designer will flourish in industry and my talents continue to grow!
On the 2nd September I travelled to London to collect a commendation for the YCN Awards 2014/15, at the Barbican Centre. Lots of surprises turned up. I won the overall award for the Taylors of Harrogate brief! You can see my work here.
This is a fantastic achievement and saw many guest speakers such as none other than Micheal Wolff from Wolff Ollins!
I met some new people and had a fantastic time.
I am now preparing to go back to finish my degree and my final year of university. I really don’t want this journey to end!
2014 has ended, and 2015 has started off with a bang…. well… I say a bang….
I have celebrated my best friends 20th, my boyfriends 21st and wow… I suppose christmas and new year too. I got some groovy gifts, as per usual!
I have been tremendously busy. My last unit, Screen Design: Information Design was really stressful. I haven’t had a chance to upload the screen shots yet, but once I find them again I will upload for the world to see (I am proud of it, regardless of the bugs in the code).
I have also started a new project, Ethical Design which involves me choosing my own field of study based around a concern or issue that could be fixed or have more awareness. BUT for Tuesday I have had to make a postcard based around my proposal.
This is my design: I based it around the PUFFIN and PENGUIN books. I kept it simple and used a grid system on the main text, on the back (yes it is double sided).
I have also been stuck a little, with my YCN brief, I have one main idea and I cannot get out of it. So, I have done a survey and hopefully that will give me some more ideas to work with. Busy times, but I am getting there. Nothing like learning and doing something I am passionate about.
